Tony holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a Masters of Business Administration in Finance and a Masters of Business Taxation degree from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He has been a Certified Public Accountant in the State of California since 1965 and maintains memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Prior to becoming a partner in Phillips & Company in 1972, Tony served as vice president of finance for SciChemCo (national manufacturer and distributor of laboratory supplies, industrial chemicals and clinical equipment), assistant treasurer for International Industries, Inc. (franchisor of 16 businesses with locations throughout the United States) and controller for House of Fabrics, Inc. He is also founder (1979) and president of Downstream Exchange Company, an accommodator of Delayed Tax Deferred Exchanges.

Entertaining and witty as a public speaker, Tony is frequently called upon to teach workshops and seminars, as well as make presentations to various city colleges and industry groups. He has also authored a course for the California Association of Realtors entitled "New Tax Laws, New Exclusions," as well as numerous articles including the provocative " Why Realtors Make Better Spouses."

Committed to the community in which he lives and works, Tony has served in many community organizations. He has been a member of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association since 1975; is past president of the Rotary Club of Pasadena, the Pasadena Arts Council and the Pasadena Symphony; and is a member of the City of Pasadena Fire and Police Retirement Board from 1990-1992. He has also given of his time to the Eastside Boy's Club, Pasadena Child Guidance Clinics and as treasurer for the Pasadena Chapter of the California Institute for Cancer Research. Currently, he serves as secretary-treasurer of the Pasadena Wine and Food Society of which he has been a member since 1982.
